Iran Nothing if Not Proactive
The “chatter” is up on a war with Iran. Iran withdrew its financial assets from Europe just in time to beat a freeze of its assets there. Israel has rehearsed preemptive strikes with fleets of hundreds of aircraft. The U.S. is set to pass a resolution after the July 4th weekend that will urge Bush to out-and-out blockade Iran, an unequivocal act of war.
How is Iran preparing? The best way it knows how: digging 320,000 graves. Quoting Iranian General Mir-Faisal Bagherzadeh:
In implementation of the Geneva Conventions . . . the necessary measures are being taken to provide for the burial of enemy soldiers, . . . . We have plans to dig 15,000 to 20,000 graves in each of the border provinces or a total of 320,000.
If you did not think that war with Iran was a distinct possibility, consider this an sign of the times. How shall these graves be put to use?
