Mitt Romney Kinda Sorta Against Gun Control - or Not
I respect those of us who want to see ownership of guns regulated because I recognize that most have good intentions. I’ve yet to hear anyone suggest that we should have gun control so that the population is disarmed against crime, terrorism, and tyrannical government. Nevertheless, good intentions cannot be allowed to circumvent the Constitution.
Let’s start with a definition. Infringe, n. to encroach on something. This is the operative term in the Second Amendment - one that Mitt Romney doesn’t understand. The Constitution doesn’t say the government should “respect” gun rights, it forbids it outright from encroaching on it whatsoever. Enacting gun control legislation without a Constitutional amendment trades the sanctity of the document for programs incapable of accomplishing their intended goal.

Romney’s disregard for the Second Amendment can probably be imputed to every other portion of the Constitution. This is how Romney governs.
The Second Amendment isn’t just formalism. It was put there with the intention of maintaining personal safety and restraining tyrannical government. Even more, the failure of the federal government to respect Second Amendment rights is the leading cause of 9/11 occurrences. The federal government stepped in and heavily regulated the airline industry, making it unlawful for pilots or other private personnel to carry guns onto planes and teaching people not to resist hijackers. Had this been properly enjoined because of its violation of the Second Amendment, it is likely that 9/11 could have been averted with armed pilots or other privatized security.
