Romney’s Ignominious Internet Ignorance

Brainless MittMitt Romney is a glutton for punishment. I’m generally disturbed by his constant preening, socialistic tendencies, and his beating the drum of censorship for the sake of sterilizing the world for children (who are apparently parentless). He wants to “enforce our obscenity laws” - whatever those are. Even if freedom of speech loses out to him, he’ll have no idea how to accomplish anything when it comes to the internet. As he was recently quoted:

YouTube is a website that allows kids to network with one another and make friends and contact each other, YouTube looked to see if they had any convicted sex offenders on their web site. They had 29,000.

Breaker breaker one-niner, that’s a big fat negative - over. Romney was no doubt struggling to recall some headline that one of his campaigners suggested he make a talking point. In fact, the website he meant to reference was the woeful abomination that is MySpace (and not because it has 29,000 sex offenders, but rather that is has 80 bajillion idiot preteens). What makes his gaffe even more humorous is that Romney himself has a MySpace page. He must be betting that users will flee from his presence.

The tragedy of the whole affair is the continued persecution and demonization of “sex offenders” long after they have paid their supposed debt to society. Only a very small percentage of the people that end up on sex offender lists are people you should actually raise an eyebrow over - most of them are 18 year-old guys with 16 year-old girlfriends. Imagine the humiliation after you complete your prison and probation sentences only to not be allowed within 1000 yards of schools (that are literally everywhere), not being able to get a job, having to tell your neighbors that you might be a pervert, and then plastering your smiling face and address all over the internet. Sex offenders never have the opportunity to reform and live normal lives - a cruel and unusual punishment. Even MySpace wound up canceling all of their accounts.

The scarlet letter has resurfaced with Mitt Romney playing Roger Chillingworth.
